Katherine Matilda Swinton is a British actress and performance artist. Swinton is mostly known for her roles in both arthouse films and large-scale Hollywood productions. Swinton won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Karen Crowder in the 2007 film Michael Clayton. Swinton began her acting career upon joining the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1984 - evident in her classical and compelling acting to date. Swinton also developed a live performance art piece for a week, shown at London's Serpentine gallery in 1995, for which she was within a glass case seemingly asleep. She has been internationally acclaimed for her acting for many years now, winning various awards, and continuing to excite audiences in the variety of roles.
