Leigh Bowery was an Australian performance artist, club promoter and fashion designer, based in London for most of his adult life, and where he met the English painter Lucian Freud and later become a significant model and muse for. As a prolific fashion designer he had several collections and shows globally in London, New York and Tokyo. He was celebrated for his extravagant and widely creative costumes, makeup, wigs and headgear, which came together to be striking and inventive and often kitschy or beautiful.
