Edwin Parker “CY” Twombly Jr was a multidisciplinary artist in the fields of painting, sculpting and photography. Most notably painting, he is in the generation of Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns. Twombly’s predominantly large scale paintings are freely-scribbled, calligraphic and graffiti-like. His works resides in their permanent collections including, Menil Collection, Tate Modern and the Museum of Modern Art. Moreover, commissioned by the Musée du Louvre for their ceiling. He is said to have influenced younger artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Anselm Kiefer, Francesco Clemente and Julian Schnabel.
